Refund Timing This Year

I’ve been trying to get a definitive answer on how long it will take the IRS to issue refunds this year, but in the words of Ygritte, “You know nothing John Snow”.  Or, rather, the IRS isn’t making any promises.  The IRS is sticking to their VERY LATE opening date of February 12, and they’ve said the earliest most taxpayers will see refunds is the first week of march!

But it gets worse ☹  If you didn’t receive the correct Stimulus 1 & 2 amounts back when all your friends did, you get to claim them on your taxes now (yay!), and your refund could be delayed for months by the IRS (wait, what?!). We’re hoping this is an exaggeration, but the IRS isn’t really known for great customer support.  If you need your refund sooner, ask your preparer about a Refund Anticipation Loan of up to $6000.  Alas, additional bank fees apply ☹

Any word about Stimulus 3?  Nope, not yet, but we expect it will be an additional $1400 once Congress gets around to it.  Taxpayers aren’t really a priority to Congress either, unless there’s an upcoming election…

Our office will be open Saturdays starting Feb 6.  Please call or email me if you have any questions, need help getting organized or sending documents over to us, or want to make an appointment.
